Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s regal monikers could be a hot topic
at Balmoral next week as the royals get together for their annual summer retreat, insider info has revealed to Express.co.uk.
A source has claimed that among the items on the agenda of what’s being termed a ” royal family summit”
will be talks about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s role in the monarchy’s future.
“The Royal Family are meeting at Balmoral to discuss a number of different things, but one of them will be the Duke and Duchess of Sussex,” the source disclosed.
They added, “What people don’t realise is that the Balmoral gathering isn’t just a summer holiday.
The family also participates in pre-arranged meetings where they discuss the family’s current position and how they can best prepare for the future.”
The informant also noted, “Last year was very much about honouring the Queen as it was the King’s first time hosting the gathering since her death, but this will be about how the family can best move forward without the Sussexes.”, reports the Express.
It was divulged that Harry and Meghan’s public engagements and upcoming tour to Canada are set to feature in the discussions, alongside the consideration of their noble titles and peerages.
Stepping onto Colombian soil on Thursday August 15, for a quasi-royal tour, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex received their esteemed titles from the late Queen Elizabeth II on their wedding day, May 19, 2018.
Prince Harry, known formally as The Duke of Sussex, Earl of Dumbarton and Baron Kilkeel, was honoured with the title of Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (KCVO) by Queen Elizabeth II back in June 2015. Meghan Markle holds the titles of The Duchess of Sussex, Countess of Dumbarton and Baroness Kilkeel.
Following their step back from Royal duties, the couple were requested to drop their HRH styles. A source revealed that, while it’s straightforward for King Charles to revoke their ‘gifted’ titles like Prince, dealing with their peerages is more complex.
“There could be a challenge made if any peerages are removed, so this is something that needs to be navigated extremely carefully,” the insider explained.
“The title of Prince and HRH are both gifts from the sovereign and can be stripped quite easily, but Harry’s Dukedom, Earldom and Barony will have to be removed by an Act of Parliament which could throw up a lot of unnecessary problems and unwanted media attention.”
They added that stripping Harry of his Prince title might affect Archie and Lilibet’s titles, but they could still use the Dumbarton titles, leaving Harry and Meghan to be known simply as the Sussexes.
“It’s a difficult one to navigate because the King is very conscious about his grandchildren,” the source noted.”There have been ongoing discussions surrounding this matter, but no decisions have yet been made. This is something that will hopefully be concluded during talks between the King and other senior royals this summer.”
Buckingham Palace has been contacted for a response.
