Amanda Holden’s daughter Lexi, 18, has been admitted to hospital after contracting E.coli.

The Britain’s Got Talent judge has opened up on how her daughter was on a hospital ward for five days after suffering stomach cramps and complaining of bloating.

Amanda explained her daughter was in “quite a lot of pain” – which Amanda initially thought was due to exam stress.

Amanda revealed to The Sun that she took her daughter to see her GP to find out what was causing Lexi’s painful symptoms.

Lexi underwent several tests and the results concluded that she was suffering from a bacterial infection.

The TV personality received calls from government officials asking Amanda to fill out forms to work out how Lexi could have contracted the infection.

Lexi’s tests came back to reveal that the infection was “VTEC E.Coli, a very harmful strain of bacteria that’s very rare in humans”.

Amanda explained that Lexi fell ill before the E.Coli outbreak hit the headlines, adding: “No-one could work out where it had come from and, by this time, she was on her third set of tests.”

Antibiotics didn’t seem to be working for Lexi and Amanda received a heartbreaking call from the doctor informing her that the 18-year-old was “in danger of contracting sepsis “. The Britain’s Got Talent judge recalled: “In the morning, I spoke to my friend Pippa, one of the wonderful midwives who delivered our gorgeous stillborn boy Theo — she was the one who got me through all of that trauma and grief — and she advised us to rush Lexi to hospital.”

Lexi was rushed to Northwick Park Hospital in London – which specialises in tropical illness and bacterial infections. Amanda and her husband Chris remained by Lexi’s side at hospital.

Amanda revealed she was filming live shows for Britain’s Got Talent at the time and was close to pulling out of the show, adding that Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli were “so supportive”. It was later confirmed by doctors that Lexi was the 113th case in the country.

The ITV judge admitted she didn’t want to make Lexi’s condition public at the time to avoid panic but now hopes to spread awareness of the symptoms her daughter suffered as they could easily be mistaken for stress or anxiety. Thankfully, Lexi was sent home from hospital and she is “doing so much better” – however, Amanda warned her daughter may have an ongoing problem with her tummy.

Amanda shared her gratitude to the NHS and revealed she gave the nurses and main hospital team tickets for the BGT final as a thank you.
