Jill Martin, co-host of the Today Show, had an amusing and highly relatable moment on

Wednesday when she revealed that a recent Botox injection had temporarily affected her ability to speak properly. During a segment in which she was presenting a roundup of deals, Jill found herself struggling to articulate certain words, leading to an unexpected but

lighthearted exchange on live television. As the segment concluded, she openly

acknowledged the situation with humor, quipping, “It’s because I got Botox and I can’t move my mouth enough to say that word.”

One of the words she found particularly difficult to pronounce was “digitization” while introducing a Capture time capsule kit. Despite her efforts, the injection had temporarily stiffened her facial muscles, making articulation a challenge. Her candid admission and self-deprecating humor resonated with many viewers, who appreciated her openness about a beauty treatment that is widely used but not always publicly discussed.

Botox, a widely popular cosmetic treatment derived from a neurotoxin, is commonly used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. By temporarily paralyzing targeted facial muscles, the procedure smooths out crow’s feet, forehead lines, and frown lines. However, one common side effect—especially if the injection is administered too close to the mouth—can be difficulty speaking or forming certain words for a short period. Many people who undergo the procedure experience slight stiffness or reduced muscle mobility for a few hours or even a day afterward.

During the segment, Jill was joined by Today Show anchor Kristen Welker, who appreciated Jill’s honesty and quickly chimed in with a playful remark: “I love the honesty!” The lighthearted moment added a humorous touch to the show, making it an especially memorable exchange for viewers.

Jill Martin has been a familiar face on the Today Show for years, working as an editor and lifestyle contributor. Throughout her tenure, she has shared both professional highlights and deeply personal experiences with audiences and colleagues alike. In addition to her work on the show, she has faced several significant life challenges, including her recent divorce and a battle with breast cancer.

In 2024, Jill initiated divorce proceedings from her husband, financier Erik Brooks, after two years of marriage. The couple had previously shared a strong bond, and their relationship had been a subject of public interest. A spokesperson for Jill confirmed to Page Six that the divorce process was nearing completion, stating, “They are nearly done with the process. Because there are families involved, and the past year has been so earth-shattering for Jill, she plans for this to be her only acknowledgment.”

The spokesperson further emphasized that Jill is currently prioritizing her health and well-being, adding, “She is concentrating on her health and being an amazing daughter, friend, and new aunt.” These words underscored her determination to move forward and focus on personal healing after a tumultuous period in her life.

A year prior to her divorce, Jill was diagnosed with breast cancer, just days after testing positive for the BRCA gene—a genetic marker that significantly increases the risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer. The news came as a shock, but Jill remained resolute in her determination to fight the disease. Reflecting on her diagnosis, she shared her initial emotions in an interview with People: “I am in shock, but at the same time I’m so grateful because it could be a very different story that we’re talking about.”

She candidly expressed her fear and uncertainty after receiving the diagnosis, admitting, “Of course I’m devastated. You hear the C-word and you think the worst. But after you hear the word and you absorb it, you then have to be your own best friend.” Despite the initial emotional turmoil, she quickly shifted her mindset to focus on her treatment and recovery.

One month after receiving her diagnosis, Jill wrote a heartfelt essay for Today.com, where she spoke about the unwavering support of her husband, family, and friends. “Honestly, I am doing OK,” she wrote. “I have a loving husband, amazing family and friends, and an incredible support system.” At the time, she credited her inner circle with helping her stay positive throughout the difficult journey ahead.

Jill underwent an intensive course of treatment, including chemotherapy and a double mastectomy. After months of fighting the disease with resilience and determination, she ultimately emerged cancer-free.

During the same Today Show segment where she humorously addressed her Botox mishap, Jill also referenced her past health battle while discussing a special deal on Felina underwear. She highlighted her appreciation for their underwire-free bralettes, stating, “This is something that doesn’t have wires, and it is super comfortable. You know my background, and this is really comfortable to wear.”

Her candid acknowledgment of her personal experiences, combined with her sense of humor, has endeared her to fans who admire her honesty and strength. Despite the challenges she has faced in both her personal and professional life, Jill continues to embrace each moment with grace, humor, and resilience.
